by Esther Adams ” Vogue magazine “

Age: 33 Provenance: Rio Grande do Sul, Brazil

“I arrived in New York at nineteen, straight off the farm—literally,” says 33-year old Mallmann with a laugh. “Needless to say, growing up around sheep and pigs, a career in modeling wasn’t something I’d been thinking about.” But in 1996, when photographer Ellen von Unwerth flew to Brazil for a shoot and cast her on the spot, that’s what she got. Lucrative campaigns, countless magazine shoots, and multiple catwalk shows “with everyone from McQueen to Ferretti, Prada and Miu Miu, Chanel and Dolce” followed, and apart from brief breaks for the births of her two sons, it hasn’t stopped since.
Apart from every shoot she’s done with Helmut Newton, Richard Avedon, and Herb Ritts, ask Mallmann for her most memorable moments and she’ll tell you this: “The time I had my long hair cut page-boy style for a shoot only to wear hats in every take, and this summer having my hair dyed permanently blue for the Hakaan show. I grabbed a handful of bleach to rinse it out for a party that same night!” Perhaps part of the secret to her success, then, was marrying a hairdresser? “Oh, yes, he can always correct those traumas.”

Saks fur gilet
Alexander Wang sweater and pants
